Haltera
A downloadable book
Since the beginning of creation, the gods have tried to populate the world with beings worth of their attention. And they failed. Over and over again. The beings created by the gods were too destructive to last and raveled the world in chaos or were too arrogant to follow the gods and declared war against their makers. So, the Void, from which everything came in the beginning and to where everything will go in the end, created humans and gave them the ultimate free will: to decide what they would become. No longer mortal beings would be molded by gods. Dealing their own fate, humans can align themselves to a god and become like their master or they can remain as they are and build their own destiny.
Haltera is a high-fantasy tabletop RPG with a different approach to races/species. Every character starts as human and can make deals with powerful entities to become something else. For example, if your character makes pacts with a dragon, they will become more and more draconic until they change into a dragon themselves. But deals can be broken. If your character betrays the pact, the entity can revoke the given gifts and the character might return to being human.
The game system is rules-light and uses only 20 sided dice. Its mechanics include:
- Death Spiral (the more damage the character receives, worse their rolls become);
- Simplified money management;
- No classes (its a skill-based game);
- Modular health system.
This game was development for the Finish Your Damn RPG Jam.
